The Lens You View

The World Through

One Thought to Challenge You

“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.” (Anaïs Nin)

Your mindset doesn’t just influence your mood. It influences your relationships, your opportunities, your leadership, and ultimately the life you experience.

One Insight from Experience

There’s an old story about a monk sitting outside a village in the mountains.

Two travelers ask him what kind of people live in the next town.

The first traveler says the last village was full of rude, selfish people. The monk replies:

“You’ll probably find the same here.”

The second traveler says the last village was full of kind and generous people. The monk replies:

“You’ll probably find the same here.”

I think about this story often because I know two siblings extremely well. Similar age. Same upbringing. Same environment.

Yet they experience life completely differently.

One is hopeful, opportunistic, grateful, and generally happy. They see setbacks as lessons and challenges as opportunities.

The other constantly feels frustrated. Focused on what’s unfair, what’s broken, and why life keeps happening to them.

Same starting point.

Different lens.

And honestly, most of us do this too.

Wayne Dyer said:

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

That doesn’t mean reality magically changes overnight.

But your perspective changes what you notice, pursue, tolerate, and create.

A few reminders this week:

  1. Examine the lens you’re carrying.

  2. Take ownership of the energy you bring into rooms.

  3. Build environments that challenge you to elevate.

Because eventually, the environments around you begin reflecting the mindset within you.

One Question to Ponder

What kind of lens am I carrying into my business, relationships, faith, and future right now?

#112 – DISRUPTOR or DISTRACTION?

DISRUPTOR or DISTRACTION?

The world is louder than ever.

Headlines.

Mergers.

AI.

Social media.

Constant noise competing for your focus.

But how much of it is actually changing the way you serve your clients, your family, or your mission?

In this episode of The Whole Enchilada Podcast, Marcus Green breaks down the critical difference between a disruptor and a distraction and why focus has become one of the greatest competitive advantages in business and life.

This episode covers:

• Why distractions feel productive

• The hidden cost of giving away your attention

• How AI can either amplify or dilute your value

• Why clarity determines what deserves your focus

• How to identify what is truly moving the needle

• Warren Buffett, Peter Drucker, and Cal Newport’s lessons on focus and execution

“If it doesn’t change how I serve my client or my family, it’s not a disruptor. It’s a distraction.”

Green Sauce: Disruptor or Distraction?

The Question Most Agents Aren’t Asking

This week I got a call from a panicked real estate agent.

They were fired up, almost frantic, about a big headline merger and acquisition that just happened in our industry.

“What does this mean for us?”
“Is everything changing?”
“Should I be worried?”

And I’ll be honest…

I was a little surprised at how much emotion and energy was being poured into something that, in that moment, didn’t change a single thing about how they were going to serve their clients that day.

Later that same week, I had a coaching session with one of the most respected brokerages in the country.

We sat down with their leadership team, talked strategy, growth, innovation…

And you know what never came up?

That same merger.

Not once.

Why?

Because they are relentlessly focused on one thing:

How do we create more value for the consumer on the front lines?

It got me thinking…

There’s a big difference between a disruptor and a distraction.

And I think a lot of our industry is confusing the two.

Here’s the filter I’ve been using:

“If it doesn’t change how you serve the client, it’s not a disruptor, it’s a distraction.”

We live in a world where noise gets rewarded.

Big headlines.
Industry gossip.
Mergers. Acquisitions.
Hot takes on social media.

They feel important, but most of them don’t actually change how you show up for your client tomorrow at 9:00am.

And that’s the real test.

Peter Drucker said it best:

“There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.”

We’ve got a lot of people getting really efficient at focusing on the wrong things.

At the same time, there are real disruptors happening.

Take AI for example.

Some people are dismissing it completely.

Others are using it to create emojis and play around.

But the ones who win?

They’re asking:

“How can I use this to better serve my clients?”

That’s the difference.

Cal Newport said:

“Clarity about what matters provides clarity about what does not.”

And Warren Buffett backed it up:

“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”

The danger isn’t just distraction…

It’s that distractions feel productive.

They give us something to talk about.
Something to react to.
Something to post about.

But they quietly pull us away from the work that actually matters.

The agents who win in this next season won’t be the ones chasing headlines…

They’ll be the ones obsessed with:

• Improving their communication
• Elevating the client experience
• Leveraging tools that create real value
• Mastering their craft at the local level

So here’s the question I’m asking myself this week, and I’d challenge you to do the same:

Where am I spending energy on distractions instead of disruptors?

Because at the end of the day…

The consumer doesn’t care about the headline.

They care about how you show up for them.

Go live life on your terms,
Marcus

#111 – The HIDDEN SKILL That SHAPES Your REALITY

The Hidden Skill Shaping Your Reality | Observation, Bias, and the 3×3 Drill

What if the biggest factor shaping your reality is something you practice every day without realizing it?

In this episode, Marcus Green explores the hidden skill of observation and how your perception determines what opportunities, problems, and possibilities you notice in the world around you.

Marcus explains the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon (also known as frequency bias), where once you become aware of something, you suddenly begin seeing it everywhere. This psychological pattern highlights a powerful truth:

Observation is not passive. It is a skill that shapes your beliefs, decisions, and ultimately your reality.

Through examples, philosophy, and practical exercises, Marcus shows how selective attention, negativity bias, and confirmation bias influence the way people interpret the world.

Drawing on insights from Anaïs Nin, Bob Marley, and Marcus Aurelius, this episode explores how controlling your mindset and observation can dramatically change how you experience life.

Marcus also introduces a practical daily exercise called the 3×3 Drill, designed to train your brain to look for progress, opportunity, and positive contribution.

If you want to lead better, think more clearly, and recognize opportunities others miss, this conversation will give you a powerful mental framework.

The 3×3 Drill

Each day, write down:

  • Three things that went right
  • Three opportunities you noticed
  • Three people who added value to your day

This simple habit helps rewire your observation patterns and strengthens your ability to recognize opportunity and growth.

#110 – 3 RULES to change how YOU LEAD YOUR LIFE

Lou Holtz’s 3 Rules for Life and Leadership

What if living a great life came down to just three simple rules?

Legendary coach Lou Holtz often shared three principles that can transform the way you make decisions, lead others, and build meaningful relationships.

They are simple.
But when applied intentionally, they become a powerful framework for living a life by design.

Lou Holtz’s three rules are:

  1. Do the right thing
  2. Do the best you can
  3. Show people you care

In this video, filmed in Maui, I break down how these three principles can guide how you live and lead across the most important areas of life.

Business
Relationships
Faith
Finances
Health

When these ideas are applied through clear values and long-term thinking, they become a roadmap for building a life that wins across all areas.

Rule #1: Do the Right Thing

Doing the right thing begins with knowing your core values.

When your values are clear, decision making becomes much easier because you have a filter to evaluate every opportunity and challenge.

This is where second order thinking becomes powerful.

Instead of asking only what happens next, you begin asking deeper questions:

  • What are the long-term consequences of this decision?
  • Where will this path lead two or three steps down the road?
  • Will this decision move me closer to the person I want to become?

Thinking this way leads to stronger leadership and better long-term outcomes.

Thomas Jefferson once gave advice that captures this idea well:

Swim with the current in style, but stand like a rock in principle.

In other words, adapt when needed, but never compromise your principles.

Rule #2: Do the Best You Can

Doing your best does not mean exhausting yourself.

It means showing up each day with focused and intentional effort.

One powerful way to do this is by replacing your traditional to-do list with a success list.

A success list focuses only on the handful of actions that truly move your life and work forward.

Instead of trying to accomplish everything, you identify the few priorities that create real progress.

This approach creates more clarity, less stress, and better results.

Rule #3: Show People You Care

Leadership is not only about results. It is about people.

When people feel seen, valued, and appreciated, trust grows.

Strong relationships are built when care is communicated consistently through actions such as:

  • Listening intentionally
  • Offering encouragement
  • Recognizing effort
  • Expressing gratitude

When people know you care about them as individuals, loyalty and collaboration naturally follow.

Why These Three Rules Matter

When combined, these three principles form a powerful leadership framework.

Do the right thing creates integrity and direction.
Do the best you can ensures focused effort and discipline.
Show people you care builds strong and lasting relationships.

Together they create a blueprint for living and leading with intention.

In this video you will learn:

  • How to filter decisions through your core values
  • Why second order thinking leads to better long-term decisions
  • The difference between style and principles
  • Why doing your best means focused effort, not exhaustion
  • How a success list can outperform a traditional to-do list
  • Why communicating care strengthens relationships

#109 – Stop Overthinking, Start Moving

The Distance Between Deciding and Doing

You already know what to do.

The problem is not information. It is hesitation.

The distance between deciding and doing is the single biggest predictor of whether your life becomes extraordinary or ordinary.

Not your talent.
Not your background.
Not even the quality of your decision.

It is how fast you move.

Most people stay stuck because they keep researching, comparing, and waiting to feel ready.

Meanwhile, someone else decides, acts, adjusts, and tries again.

The only wrong action is inaction.

Intentions do not create results. Execution does.

There are two versions of you.
The one who knows.
The one who acts.

Success happens when those two become the same person.

So close the gap.

Make the call.
Start the plan.
Have the conversation.
Take the step.

You deserve the life you want. No one is going to build it for you.

It is time to move.

Go live life on your terms.

#108 – Better Thinking

If you are working hard but still feel like progress should come easier, this episode of The Whole Enchilada Podcast is for you. In Better Thinking, Marcus shares why success in business and life is not just about effort. It is about learning how to think clearly, slow down, and make better decisions over time. Most people do not fail because they lack information. We live in a world with unlimited access to information. People struggle because they do not know how to organize that information, think strategically under pressure, and make high quality decisions consistently. In this episode, Marcus breaks down 15 powerful mental models that elite leaders and long-term winners use to improve their thinking and results. You will learn:
  • Why the quality of your life is determined by the quality of your thinking
  • How to stop making shallow decisions and start solving root problems
  • Why slowing down is often the fastest way to win long-term
  • How to avoid predictable mistakes before trying to make great decisions
  • How better thinking leads to bigger results with less effort
Mental models discussed include:
  • First principles thinking
  • Second-order thinking
  • Inversion
  • Margin of safety
  • Opportunity cost
  • Probabilistic thinking
  • Asymmetric bets
  • Avoiding foolishness
  • Emotional regulation
  • Long-term thinking
  • Leverage awareness
  • Identity-based decision making
  • Environment design
This episode is for entrepreneurs, leaders, and high achievers who want:
  • Better decision-making
  • Clearer thinking in fast-paced environments
  • Long-term success without burnout

#107 – New Year, Better You

We’ve all heard the phrase “New Year, New You.” I don’t believe that. A new year does not mean you erase who you are. It means you refine who you are becoming. In this solo episode, I share 10 practical principles to help you hit your goals in 2026 by focusing on habits, identity, lifestyle, and relationships, not hype or resolutions. This is not about starting over. It is about stacking better days, making better decisions, and building a life by design. If you are committed to growth, momentum, and becoming a better version of yourself this year, this episode is for you. #EnchiladaNation #PersonalGrowth #Leadership #LifeByDesign #GrowthMindset

#106 – Stop Rationalizing, Start Reframing

In this episode, I unpack a simple but powerful shift in thinking: moving from rationalizing to reframing. We all rationalize our behavior and the behavior of others in an effort to make sense of life’s challenges. But what if we stopped explaining the past and started reshaping the future? I share how understanding this shift has helped me see people and myself with more grace, approach challenges with clarity, and make better decisions moving forward. Growth is not about being perfect. It starts with becoming aware, understanding the “why” behind our reactions, reframing the story we are telling ourselves, and taking action from a higher place. If you have ever felt stuck in old patterns or found yourself overanalyzing why something happened, this episode will help you move from reaction to growth. Go live life on your terms, Marcus

#105 – What is the Ultimate Cheat Code?

In this short but powerful episode, Marcus reveals the real cheat code to success — and it’s not what you think. It’s not money, tools, or talent. The ultimate cheat code is simple… be reliable. We all say integrity matters, but how often do we actually keep promises to ourselves and others? From showing up on time to following through on small commitments, reliability is the secret weapon that builds trust, confidence, and long-term success. 💡 In this episode, you’ll learn:
  • Why reliability beats talent, tools, and trends
  • How to build integrity through small daily commitments
  • The connection between reliability, confidence, and influence
  • Practical examples of showing up in business, relationships, and life
It’s not flashy — but it’s powerful. The people who do what they say they’ll do always win in the long run. 🔥 Be reliable. Stay gritty. Go live life on your terms. #Mindset #Success #Motivation #Leadership #Entrepreneurship #PersonalGrowth #TheWholeEnchilada #EnchiladaNation
